Martyna Beloviene – Dietitian

Registered Bodies:
HCPC DT29192
BDA 19348

My name is Martyna Beloviene and I am Registered Dietitian. I qualified as a Dietitian in 2005 in north-eastern Europe. I moved to the UK almost 10 years ago and registered with HCPC (Health care professions council). I also became a member of BDA (British Dietetic association) and a member of Mental Health specialist group. I am a part time dietitian in a private mental health hospital treating personality disorders, disordered eating, weight issues and promote healthy eating habits.

At the moment I am studying IBS and low FODMAP diet in the Monash university, Australia. My most recent studies are ‘Brain and behaviour: regulating body weight’, ‘Food and mood: improving mental health through Diet and nutrition’, ‘Food as Medicine’ and ‘Food for thought: the relationship between food, gut and brain.’

I have experience not only working in a complex environment like hospital – catering for various departments, but also in a community, where I have offered consultations for people with mental health issues and weight problems. I have experience in running healthy eating workshops for a local community. I have a special interest in gut health. The latest research links the gut microbiome to metabolism, immune functions and autoimmune diseases, as well as mental and brain health and I find it fascinating. I do believe that although mental disorders are of a complex nature, it can be improved through diet quality.

One of my favourite quotes is one by Greek physician Hippocrates ‘Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food.’  I am a natural listener which I think is crucial in working with people struggling with eating disorders. And I am passionate about making difference in peoples lives. I think one of the most fulfilling aspects of my role as a Dietitian is to be the one who walks alongside someone in their recovery journey. It is truly rewarding to see someone to re-discover healthy eating, grow in confidence and independence.

In my leisure time I love learning new things, reading, watching films based on true life story. I also love spending time in nature, cycling. I am a very creative person, and I love all sorts of crafts. The most therapeutic ones I discovered are soap making and toy crocheting.
